IoT platform and sensor provider Libelium has unveiled a radical redesign of its Meshlium IoT Gateway (pictured right), as well as adding a new batch of Cloud Partners to provider greater choice for application developers. It now has a total of 33 Cloud server partners.
The IoT gateway has been upgraded to a CPU that is ten times faster than the previous model and which features eight times more RAM memory. It is also now supports compatibility with any Cloud platform. Connectivity speeds have also been increased to achieve fast Internet connection and data synchronisation by upgrading the cellular radios to 4G and Wi-Fi.
David Gascón, Libelium CTO, said: "It is the first IoT gateway in the market that works with five communication interfaces at the same time. Ethernet and 4G are used to send the data to the Cloud, while low consumption radios like 802.15.4/ZigBee are used along with long range RF 868/900MHz technologies to get the data from the sensors. A Wi-Fi radio is also available to control the device.”
The new Meshlium gateway includes an expansion port for the first time to enable the direct connection of I2C, USB or UART external devices. This allows high bandwidth devices, such as cameras or industrial sensors, to transmit large volume of data to the Cloud and increases Libelium's IoT platform ecosystem and interoperability.
New Cloud platforms integration
The Libelium IoT ecosystem now supports BaseN, Cumulocity, Ensura, Kii, NexMachina, Orchestra, Riot, Sensorup, Smart Plants, Techedge (for SAP connection) and Telit. They have joined forces with Libelium to speed up IoT adoption by integrating their platform capabilities onto the Meshlium IoT gateway.
These new partners join existing Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure Microsoft, IBM Bluemix, Indra, Telefonica or Thingworx. This compatibility with a wide range of cloud platform makes it easy for developer to create new IoT applications for smart cities, precision agriculture, smart environment and smart water management, among others.
Libelium is making available new development kits, which can be deployed anywhere in a timely and cost effective way. Actility (using LoRaWAN connectivity), Basen, Cumulocity, Eagle.io, Elmitel, Techedge, Tele2 and Telit are all launching new solutions with Libelium IoT devices.
