Edgewater Wireless Systems has teamed up with EION Wireless to develop an integrated LTE and Wi-Fi small cell solution. The product combines Edgewater’s high-density WiFi3 integrated multi-channel Wi-Fi technology with EION’s high capacity small cell solution.

EION is developing the product in partnership with Edgewater Wireless to deliver ubiquitous coverage using both LTE and Wi-Fi. The two companies, both based in Ottawa, Canada, claim the product is the first RF agnostic solution for LTE + Wi-Fi available on the market today. The product also boasts the lowest overall deployment cost (CAPEX & OPEX) for a full integrated product versus a layered solution of LTE with Wi-Fi as an add-on component.
The integrated solution will also leverage WiFi3’s wideband RF front end and patented interference mitigation technology to deliver the most channel density and 200% the coverage of a legacy LTE.

Orders are now being accepted for the fully integrated LTE +WiFi3 product, which will ship in September 2016.

“Working closely with the team at EION, Edgewater Wireless went through an extensive process of technical design and review of our next generation high density Wi-Fi technology to ensure optimal performance for EION’s small cell customers and deployments,” said Andrew Skafel, president & CEO of Edgewater Wireless.

“The small cell industry is very hot right now and gaining momentum. This partnership is a win-win for both our companies and will help strengthen our collective wireless products and solutions to a broad range of customers.”

The small cell industry is forecast for 43% annual growth according to the latest report from ABI Research and is projected to be worth $3.92 billion by 2020, according to Markets and Markets.

Network infrastructure is moving quickly away from coverage-centric to a more agile capacity-focused network deployment model to effectively add capacity in high-density locations. WiFi3 integrated with EION’s small cell solutions will offer the highest capacity small cell + Wi-Fi product available in the market today, according to Edgewater and EION.

Formed in 2001, EION is a global provider of 4G Mobile WiMAX solutions, LTE solutions, and high speed broadband wireless products. With global customer support operations in India, and multiple regional sales offices around the globe, EION Wireless works with more than 165 channel partners worldwide to support some of the largest 4G deployments in the world.

EION Wireless has established over 50 Gold partners globally. EION channel partners support various enterprise sectors such as oil and gas, WISP, Government institutions, mining, safety and security. EION products are sold to Tier I and II service providers directly.

“Our customers have been asking for a solution that offered both LTE and WiFi and delivers a 360-degree solution to their coverage and capacity requirements,” said Dr. Kalai Kalaichelvan, president & CEO of EION Inc.

”The latest innovation – LTE + WiFi3 from EION will solve the capacity crunch that so many of our customers are being challenged with. Particularly in high density deployments where the already saturated unlicensed Wi-Fi spectrum impairs traditional Wi-FI performance and where WiFi3 outperforms the competition.”

Edgewater’s WiFi3 powered technology was developed as a Wi-Fi solution for carriers, service providers and systems integrators to address the growing problems of interference, capacity and critical mass of users which is stretching Wi-Fi and IoT networks to their breaking point.

Edgewater’s patented technology is designed to solve the high-density problem, while also significantly reducing the equipment investment and operating costs for new network deployments.
