Simoco appoints business development director for EMEA utilities market

Simoco Group has announced two appointments to further strengthen the organisation’s reach in the utilities sector. Nick Avill (pictured left) joins as business development director, EMEA Utilities, and will be responsible for driving sales activity in the electricity, oil, gas and water markets across the region.

Avill has extensive experience in technical sales with recent leadership roles at Bender GmbH, JCB Power Products, Tait Radio Communications and Ericsson. He has expertise in securing deals for global infrastructure projects for IT, fixed and mobile comms, providing wireless network build, SCADA, telemetry, CCTV, access control, business intelligence and system integration.

In a further boost to the team, Simoco has also appointed Connor Smyth (pictured right), who will report to Avill as his business development manager. Connor joins from Ultra Wood & Douglas, where he was responsible for the sales and marketing of bespoke wireless products and services to the utilities industry and government.

Simoco Group CEO Mike Norfield said: “After the initial success of our Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) telemetry solution, Simoco Pulse, we decided to boost our business development team with two key appointments. DMR telemetry provides organisations with a reliable and cost effective way of ensuring the transmission of mission critical data.

“As utilities companies continue to incorporate smart technologies and more advanced systems, reliable data transmission is becoming more and more important. Both Nick and Connor join us with a wealth of experience in this sector and they will be building on our existing platform to expand our Simoco Pulse solution, as well as our next generation of portable and mobile devices.”

Commenting on his appointment, Nick Avill, said: “Simoco is widely respected in the industry and I’m delighted to be joining the team at such an exciting time for the business. With the launch of the company’s suite of telemetry products and next generation radios aimed at utilities companies, I hope my experience in this field will further strengthen Simoco’s position in the market and I am looking forward to beginning my new role.”

The Simoco Pulse solution, which enables organisations to manage and control networks across vast operational areas, has recently been expanded with the release of the Pulse AIR Pro advanced data modem and the Pulse ELITE integrated remote telemetry unit (RTU).
