Airbus TETRA radio supports Biathlon World Championships 2016

Airbus Defence and Space has provided TETRA two-way radio technology for personnel organising the biathlon world championships 2016 in Oslo Holmenkollen, Norway. 260 Airbus Defence and Space Tetra radios THR9i and THR880i were used at the World Cup 2016, as well as 26 base stations and several RCS9500. The local TETRA network operator is TC Connect Norway.

Held from 2 to 13 March, the International Biathlon Union (IBU), which organised the competition, had to coordinate many helping hands, such as doctors, drivers, security staff and the jury to ensure a smooth course of action. A reliable and resilient professional mobile radio communication network was therefore considered indispensable.

“We appreciate that Airbus Defence and Space contributes to our significant tournament. The organising committee relies on a radio communication infrastructure that had stood the test of time at other large sports events”, said Erik Trosby, chief of communications at Oslo2016, the local organising committee.

In addition to the TETRA radios and accessories, the Airbus Defence and Space DXT3c switch was also used in Oslo. It has in-built redundancy and offers high availability of radio network capacity.
