SIGFOX IoT network used for pilot with French postal service

SIGFOX has begun a pilot programme with Groupe La Poste, the French postal service company, for a new service that allows businesses and individuals to order a range of postal services with the push of a button. The pilot programme will operate regionally during the first half of 2016.

The DOMINO programme provides fingertip convenience for ordering parcel pickup and delivery via SIGFOX’s dedicated, low-power and low-cost Internet of Things network, as well as improving the efficiency of La Poste’s services.

Developed by the Digital and Services - Mail – Parcel Division at La Poste, the service allows individuals to place any unpackaged article in their mailbox equipped with a DOMINO button, and trigger the full support of the parcel by La Poste. This includes pickup, boxing, wrapping and shipping.

With SIGFOX’s low power wide area (LPWA) technology, the service can transmit requests over long distances at very low cost. The transmission power is equivalent to what a portable remote control would require.
