Airbus wins TETRA contracts for two more Chinese metros

Airbus Defence and Space has recently won two new metro contracts in China with the public transport companies Qingdao Metro LLC and Fuzhou City Metro LLC, which it will equip with TETRA (Terrestrial trunked radio) technology. Including the new systems, more than 20 metro lines in China are now using secure TETRA radio networks from Airbus Defence and Space.

In Fuzhou city, the provincial capital of Fujian, Fuzhou Metro line 1 includes 21 stations and comprises a total length of around 29km. Airbus is providing a TETRA system with a complete set of equipment, including the next-generation DXT3 switch, base stations, dispatcher workstation controllers and terminals. The system will provide communications support for dispatching, operating and managing metro trains, and for ensuring the security of the metro line.

The Qingdao contract involves equipping Metro line 3 with a TETRA system. It will be the first metro line in Qingdao, a coastal city in the Shandong province, and will enter service at the end of 2015. The new radio communications system from Airbus will cover the whole 25.1km line, which has 22 stations.
