Sepura has clinched a deal with Cambridge United Football Club to provide its Digital Mobile Radios (DMR) for their communication needs. The hand-portable DMR radios, together with remote speaker microphones, will be supplied to the club by Sepura’s channel partner Direct Telecom Services.

The DMR radios replace the club’s analogue communication system and will be officially used for the first time during the upcoming FA Cup match between Cambridge United and Manchester United, the globally renowned football club, already a record 11 times FA Cup winner. The match will take place in Cambridge on Friday 23 January 2015.

Jez George, CEO for Cambridge United, commented: ‘We had been looking to improve our communications for some time and when we came to evaluate Sepura DMR radios it was a very easy decision to make.

‘The hand-held radios are rugged, dependable and deliver crystal-clear audio, which is a fundamental requirement in the noisy and busy stadium environment. We know Sepura well and we are proud to partner with a local company that has become such a global leader in its field.’

George added: ‘The forthcoming FA Cup match is one of the biggest events in the history of our club, we are aware of the global exposure that it will give to Cambridge United and need to ensure that everything runs smoothly and successfully on the day. Thanks to our new Sepura digital radios we’ll be ready to overcome any challenges that may arise during the event.’

Grant Litchfield, managing director for Direct Telecom said: ‘This success has great significance also for DTS as it’s our first contract with a sports club featuring Sepura radios. We are also looking forward to working with and providing support to Cambridge United staff in preparation for such a landmark event that all supporters and the public will remember in the years to come.’

Chris D’Aguiar VP Commercial for Sepura, concluded: “The fruitful and solid partnership with Direct Telecom Services has enabled us to win such a significant contract and at Sepura we are also proud to support our local team.

‘Our expertise in digital radio communications for public safety enables us to deliver improved levels of security which will undoubtedly be very high on the agenda of the club and all the other parties in preparation for the forthcoming game. This is going to be a great event for the region and I’m looking forward to seeing Manchester United play, but I’ll be rooting for the U’s!’
