Sigma Designs introduces Z-Wave IoT-ready development kits

Sigma Designs has announced the launch of two new development kits that empower gateway, router and controller companies to create Z-Wave products and services for the Internet of Things (IoT) in the fastest and easiest possible way, leveraging Z-Wave over IP (Z/IP) software.

Sigma, a provider of intelligent system-on-chip (SoC) solutions for Smart TV, Internet of Things (IoT) for Smart Home and set-top-boxes (STBs), said the new development kits provide streamlined tools for the development of Z-Wave controllers and end-devices.

Sigma Designs will demonstrate the new development tools at CES 2015, 6-9 January in Las Vegas, at the Westgate Hotel (formerly LV Hilton), Santa Fe Suite #2990, and in the Z-Wave Alliance Pavilion South Hall 20900.

The Smart Home has become the face of the IoT, with explosive growth predicted. IHS Technology reports the smart home market will grow 56% per year for the next three years, with Strategy Analytics projecting that by 2020, 224M homes will have some form of smart home system.

Z-Wave technology, with some 35 million interoperable devices already deployed in homes around the world, is addressing this accelerated pace with the launch of these new development kits. These new solutions provide all the resources and assets needed to easily and quickly develop Z-Wave controllers and devices for Smart Home IoT applications, according to Sigma.

The Z-Wave Controller Development Kit is designed to meet IoT for Smart Home market needs for both in-home and cloud based services, as well as development for gateways, portals, televisions, set-top boxes, and additional consumer electronics products and services.

Feature-rich, IoT-enabled development is greatly expedited through the inclusion of serial API, Z/IP Gateway, Z-Ware C-API, and access to full source code.
