Alcatel-Lucent and Nokia Networks reported to be in merger talks

The two mobile infrastructure giants Alcatel-Lucent and Nokia Networks are reported to be in merger talks, according to German publication Manager Magazin, citing unidentified company sources today (18 December 2014).

The publication said that talks had resumed in the European autumn and could involve a merger or an agreement for close cooperation. Neither company has commented on the reports at this point.

Both companies have been involved in major restructuring programmes over the last two years, divesting themselves on non-core businesses and focusing on a number of key areas to improve their competitiveness and profitability.
