Orange France launches Z-Wave powered home automation solution

Sigma Designs, a provider of intelligent system-on-chip (SoC) solutions for Smart TV, Smart home and IP-based set-top-boxes (STBs), has announced that French telecommunications operator Orange has selected Z-Wave technology for its recently introduced Homelive Smart Home Solution.

Homelive is a smart-home convenience system that puts their home at the customer's fingertips when away. Using a single application accessed by a smartphone tablet or computer, Orange Homelive allows consumers to adjust settings and to control remotely all connected home appliances from any place in order to enhance home security, improve home comfort, and manage energy consumption in the home.

Homelive includes support for a broad range of devices, and Orange said it is continuing to expand the types of services and devices supported. The home monitoring subscription service is available for €9.99 (£7.98) per month, and sends alerts when devices such as motion detectors and smoke alarms are triggered to owners via SMS or email.

The Homelive pack is sold for €79 (£63) with a special cash back offer of €78 (£62) for all new Homelive customers. It includes a central unit and three devices - a smoke sensor, a door/window sensor and a motion sensor. To enjoy the features of the Homelive solution, the user pays only €9.99 per month with a 12-month commitment.

The subscription includes unlimited SMS alerts, continuity of service monitoring and alerts in case of internet failure (subject to Orange mobile coverage), dedicated technical support and storage of video and data for a month. The offer is not restricted to Orange customers. Homelive can be installed in any home in France with an active Internet connection.

Orange Homelive includes offerings from Z-Wave Alliance member companies including the MiOS software technology platform for home control and smart devices from Fibaro and AeonLabs.

"Z-Wave technology from Sigma Designs is widely trusted and widely used, which gives us a good foundation for Orange Homelive, allowing us to create a feature-rich and easy to install smart home solution," said Nathalie Laudat, Head of Smart Home Division, at Orange France.

"It is critical for us to continue to enhance our offerings and provide high-value solutions to consumers in France, and Homelive is a powerful yet cost-effective system that enables users to gain peace of mind with better home security and enjoy the benefits of a more connected, smarter home."

Sigma and Z-Wave offer an ecosystem, proven interoperability testing, and product certification program that make it simple for service providers such as Orange to successfully implement smart home capabilities for consumers.

"Using Z-Wave technology from Sigma and our alliance partners, Orange can support communication between and control of a wide array of devices in and around the home, including lighting, appliances, HVAC, and security systems," said Raoul Wijgergangs vice president Z-Wave business unit at Sigma Designs. "Z-Wave helps service providers expand quickly into the growing home control market."
