Motorola Solutions delivers 200,000th TETRA radio to German public safety authorities

Motorola Solutions has delivered its 200,000th TETRA digital radio terminal to German public safety organisations. The 200,000th radio terminal was delivered in Bavaria, where Motorola Solutions’ partner abel & käufl Mobilfunkhandels GmbH has won the tender for the districts of Weilheim-Schongau, Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen and Garmisch-Partenkirchen for the delivery of 5,000 TETRA radio terminals and corresponding service and support.

To mark this important milestone, Christoph Thomas, managing director of Motorola Solutions in Germany, handed over a specially created MTP850 radio emblazoned with the Bavarian crest (see below) to the representatives of the district authorities Weilheim-Schongau, Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen and Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

The TETRA digital radio solutions will be used by the fire departments and security services of the three districts to enable secure and reliable communication of the emergency services.

Up until today (9 October 2014), Motorola Solutions has sold more than two million TETRA terminals worldwide. Since the first tender was issued in 2009, Motorola has delivered digital radio solutions - equipment,  associated management and services - to the security forces in Berlin, Brandenburg, Hesse, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia, enabling secure and reliable digital radio communications for the federal security organisations.

The entire portfolio Motorola offers to German customer is certified by BDBOS, which runs the new emergency services TETRA network (BOS), attesting that the devices meet highest performance and security standards.

TETRA digital radio solutions from Motorola support end-to-end encryption in accordance with the requirements of the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) for tap-proof communication.

The radios have an interface similar to those in mobile phones, making them easy to operate. Users are therefore familiar with the functions and can use the terminal immediately.

With a network of  authorised BOS partners throughout Germany, Motorola Solutions ensures that customers in every corner of the country receive competent support tailored to their specific needs from a certified local partner.

Andrea Jochner-Weiß, head of the district authority Weilheim-Schongau and association chairman of the special purpose association for rescue services and fire department, Oberland, said: “The introduction of the TETRA digital radio technology is one of the most important modernization projects and an important step into the future.

“Digital radio technology enables our rescue workers at fire departments and rescue services to communicate securely and reliably. We are very pleased with the successful collaboration with Motorola Solutions and abel & käufl Mobilfunkhandels GmbH. Thanks to their knowledge and longstanding project experience in public safety, we can ensure secure communications for our rescue services in any emergency.”
