Telefónica announced today (17 September 2014) that it has chosen Huawei’s operations support system (OSS) solution, which became commercially available in June 2014, as part of its OSS simplification strategy in performance management.
Huawei’s performance management solution offers one unified approach to manage all network technologies for mobile, fixed and data services. By providing a single platform across the Latin American operations, Telefónica will be able to accurately compare and benchmark performance between countries.
The solution will provide true multi-vendor, multi-domain, multi-technology end-to-end performance management capabilities, quick issue resolution with performance-centric trouble shooting, and knowledge sharing via Telco Value Asset across all affiliates of the Telefónica Group in Latin-America.
Using the key learnings gained from the successful delivery over 100 projects to operators in 59 countries since 2006, Huawei said it is evolving OSS to become a key enabler of service-centric operators, allowing them to play a significantly larger role in the emerging digital economy by transforming from a B2C to a B2B2C player.
Juan Manuel Caro Bernat, operations & OSS director at Telefónica, said: “We are in the middle of a huge transformation and OSS is a key area for that transformation because of the impact it has on our customers. We are implementing global solutions across all our businesses and simplifying the OSS map.
“Telefónica’s OSS simplification strategy is based on the standardisation, simplification and automation of the processes and technologies across our footprint. We are selecting the best partners in the market to help us in this journey.
He added: “Huawei Performance Management solution really meets our demands through its leading-edge capabilities. Huawei is our strategic and reliable partner, and I believe that our cooperation with Huawei will continue to be fruitful and profitable in the future.”
“For us, Huawei OSS has been one of the company’s key strategic investment areas, and strengthens our position as a transformation partner for operators,” said Dr. Howard Liang, Senior Vice President, President of Global Technology Service, Huawei.
“It is a great honour for Huawei to be selected as the performance management solution supplier for Telefónica subsidiaries in Latin-America. The cooperation between Telefónica and Huawei has now extended from purely CT (core network and terminals) to also encompassing IT, and we are confident and committed to delivering the full end-to-end performance management scope requested by Telefónica to the highest quality. ”
Juan Manuel Caro Bernat added that Huawei was already established as a Telefónica network domain partner, but was now an OSS partner as well. He indicated that if the South American OSS solution went well, then the partnership might be extended to other geographies and OSS domains.
