ZyXEL unveils new Wi-Fi range extender for domestic properties

ZyXEL has introduced its new WRE6505wireless range extender with ac750 dual-band (2.4 and 5 GHz) technology. The product presents wireless service providers with a device capable of extending existing Wi-Fi networks efficiently and delivering easy and comprehensive Wi-Fi coverage into the farthest corners of the customers’ homes.

The WRE6505 has been designed to replace unsightly and complicated network extension options and comes in a compact and stylish white housing featuring LED lights indicating the best place for installation. It just plugs into the socket and the customer can instantly activate secure operation via the one-click Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS).

Customers can enjoy the speed of 802.11ac Wi-fi network with 750 Mbit/s, plus, the WRE6505 is backward compatible with 802.11 a/b/g/n equipment. It also offers a built-in Ethernet port that provides instant network access for an additional device or, for example, for a multi-port switch to accommodate even more devices.

To avoid interference into, for example, a neighbour’s wireless environment, a further useful management feature of the new WRE6505 is wireless output management which allows users to adjust the output power accordingly. The integrated inactive link detection sends the WRE6505 into power-saving mode as soon as data transmission is inactive.

Service providers will appreciate fewer and shorter customer support calls and also profit from the decrease in churn. Both can be achieved thanks to better wireless coverage at the end-customer premises and remote management function (TR-069 protocol) which allows convenient remote set-up and configuration or easy future firmware updates if necessary.

Advanced performance with speed/range boost

The Speed Boost and Range Boost modes of the ZyXEL WRE6505 help to establish optimal, interference-free throughput and coverage by using the two concurrent frequencies in different ways.

In the Range Boost mode, where the router communicates with the Extender in the 2.4GHz frequency mode, maximum wireless coverage is guaranteed.

In the Speed Boost mode, speed gets priority over coverage, as the router uses the 5 GHz frequency to address the WRE6505.

ZyXEL will be exhibiting at Broadband World Forum from 21-23 October 2014 in the RAI Exhibition & Convention Centre in Amsterdam – Stand No.: D40
