PageOne has announced a new four-year contract to provide Janet txt, a secure SMS messaging service to schools, colleges and universities across the UK.
Value for money, service capability, resilience and an ISO 27001 accreditation for data security were all key considerations following the comprehensive tendering process.
The new contract is set to commence on 1 May 2014 for four years, although the new pricing structure will take effect from the 1 April 2014, delivering a new lower SMS messaging price, lower service charges and a host of new functionality to enhance the user experience.
With the basic solution free to use and with no on-going commitment required, the PageOne service offered ‘best value’ as reflected through pricing, technical and functional capability, integration with third party software and a dedicated Customer Service and support team.
Divisional CEO Janet, Tim Marshall, said “In addition to offering value for money, data-security was also a key factor. PageOne’s commitment to information security management means not only can we offer a low-cost national communication channel to support the learning experience, but users can also be assured that their information is safeguarded by the highest possible standards.”
Organisations have long relied on the PageOne’s provision of the Janet txt service to deliver vital information. For example, it was recently used in the aftermath of a major campus fire at Strathclyde University; messages were sent out to more than 16,000 students, families and academics alerting them to the disaster and advising them of arrangements for the following day.
Nigel Gray, director at PageOne, said: “Institutions rely on the system for everything from day-to-day reminders and student communications with teachers, to crisis situations where rapid communication capabilities are vital. We have been providing the Janet txt service since its inception in 2008, and are delighted to be renewing our contract with Janet for a further four years.”
The Janet network is dedicated to the needs of education and research in the UK. It connects the UK's education and research organisations to each other, as well as to the rest of the world through links to the global Internet. In addition, Janet includes a separate network that is available to the community for experimental activities in network development.
