Sepura creates new senior government and public safety role

Sepura has today (7 March 2104) announced the appointment of Jonathan Hamill (pictured) into a newly created senior executive role of VP Government and Public Safety.

The company said the appointment follows Sepura’s rise to market leading status in the UK’s public safety market, and will build on its continuing success in the government and public safety markets across the rest of the world.

Hamill’s appointment follows the telecommunications plc’s increased systems and applications capabilities provided by the acquisition of 3T, the Austrian supplier of TETRA infrastructure and Portalify, the Helsinki-based developer, and the expansion of its offering in commercial markets through the launch of its DMR portfolio.

Gordon Watling, Sepura’s CEO, commented: 'Jonathan’s appointment strengthens our strategic UK and global commitment to this sector, and reaffirms our on-going evolution into a global critical communications business by continuing to scale and structure the organisation to reflect our more diversified addressable markets and product offering.'

Hamill had previously held a number of senior commercial positions at Sepura including, most recently, the role of regional director UK & Ireland, which included worldwide responsibility for Sepura’s Covert & Specialist portfolio. He will continue to lead Sepura’s involvement in the Emergency Services Mobile Communications Programme (ESMCP), the UK Government’s review of its long term communication requirements.

The role of regional director of UK & Ireland will be filled by Gary Maughan, who has previously held senior UK and European sales and business development roles in public safety, intrinsically safe and commercial markets, including 15 years at Motorola.

Maughan commented: 'The team at Sepura has worked hard to establish its market leading status within the UK public safety sector and I am excited by the opportunity to make a contribution to its future success. I am confident Sepura will continue to help customers meet those challenges through its expanded product portfolio and outstanding customer service.'

Hamill added: 'I am delighted to welcome such an experienced communications professional as Gary to lead the next stage in the development of our UK & Ireland business. After enjoying tremendous success in the domestic market, I am looking forward to the challenges presented by my new role at this truly exciting time for Sepura.'
