MWC 2014: Jasper Wireless launches Global SIM for M2M and IoT devices

M2M platform provider introduces what it claims is the world’s first solution in production for managing over-the-air provisioning of connected devices

MWC 2014: Jasper Wireless launches Global SIM for M2M and IoT devices

M2M platform provider Jasper Wireless today (24 February 2014) unveiled the Jasper Global SIM, the latest software module to be integrated into its cloud-based platform.

Jasper Global SIM gives enterprises the ability to manage a single embedded SIM by remotely provisioning and managing mobile operator profiles and policies for that SIM anywhere in the world.

This meets the demand for more efficient and cost-effective global deployment models and enables rapid international distribution and device activation, the company said.

Connected devices can be transferred seamlessly from one operator to another to take advantage of local operator support, comply with international roaming restrictions and address cost constraints.

Jasper Global SIM provides the ability to change SIM profiles on-demand or based on pre-defined rules and triggering events, with reporting and audit controls, automated assignment to proper policies, rate plans and service conditions and with fully managed billing and contractual term compliance. This technology innovation is already patent protected.

The Jasper Global SIM software developer kit is available today for enterprises deploying M2M devices internationally.

'For multinational enterprises, the challenge of managing a single global IoT service cannot be underestimated. It starts with the development process and continues throughout the service lifecycle,' said Carrie MacGillivray, Program Vice President, Mobile Services & IoT, IDC.

'The downstream operational impact of moving from operator to operator can be a real headache. That’s why a global IoT service – starting with a global SIM – is about more than being able to swap SIM profiles between operators; it’s about making operational processes such as policy management, diagnostics and auditing seamless between local operator partners.

'Enterprises must consider their global requirements prior to making an IoT investment and choose an IoT partner according to these needs,' said MacGillivray.

Already integrated into leading SIM subscription manager systems, Jasper Global SIM provides a common architecture for enterprises managing global deployments of smart meters, connected cars, home security systems and much more.

'The demand for a Global SIM has been led by our enterprise customers, who need to remotely provision and manage their connected devices wherever they are in the world,' said Daniel Collins, CTO Wireless at Jasper.

'The combination of our network of over 15 mobile operator group partners, representing more than 100 national operators, and the new Jasper Global SIM software module means enterprises can develop connected products and services safe in the knowledge that they are future-proofed.

'Whether they are launching into a new territory, designing a new application or wanting to quickly scale their business, Jasper Global SIM gives them the flexibility and reassurance they need,” said Collins.

Launched today at Mobile World Congress 2014, live demonstrations of the Jasper Platform and Global SIM software module are on display at the Jasper stand (Hall 5, stand 5G16). The Global SIM Software Developer Kit is also available today.

Over 2,500 enterprises have standardised on the Jasper platform across 15 mobile operator groups worldwide. Using the company’s cloud-based technology, network operators and enterprises can scale their deployment of connected devices quickly and profitably globally.

Mobile operators leveraging the Jasper IoT Platform include AT&T, Telefónica, América Móvil, NTT DOCOMO, KPN, VimpelCom, SingTel, Etisalat, Telstra, Rogers, and more.
