Roke delivers first mobile voice CESG commercial product assurance certification

Roke Manor Research, part of Chemring Technology Solutions, has completed its first commercial product assurance (CPA) certification for security-enforcing technology that is used by UK government and the wider public sector.

This follows its appointment by CESG, the UK’s National Technical Authority for Information Assurance, as a recognised UK test laboratory accredited to carry out CPA testing.

Roke performed the testing to certify Cryptify Call, a smartphone application for secure calls, in 20 weeks. Cryptify Call is now the first CPA-certified mobile voice solution on the market.

Johan Wagné, CEO of Cryptify, said: “There is a strong demand in the UK for access to mobile voice applications that are proven to be secure and we are very proud to bring the first CPA-certified solution to the market. Cryptify Call’s CPA certificate means that we are now able to provide this assurance to both government and enterprise customers in the UK.”

Richard Morris, Information Assurance Programme Manager at Roke, said: “As a CPA-authorised test lab with a background in the Research and Development of secure communication systems, we have the depth of expertise necessary to evaluate a wide range of security products.

“Using our own software and hardware development expertise, we provide constructive feedback to product developers to reduce the burden associated with putting products through a security evaluation. Our experience has enabled us to fully evaluate this solution in a significantly reduced time, without compromising the rigour of testing and allowing Cryptify to bring its certified product to market faster.”

Roke is a certified Test Laboratory under the CESG Commercial Product Assurance Certification (CPA) scheme and is accredited to evaluate products against set security standards. CPA gives government, the wider public sector and industry confidence that a product will perform its stated security functions and can be trusted, unlike non-certified products.
