Xirrus announces next generation Wi-Fi cloud management service

Wi-Fi network provider Xirrus has introduced the next generation of its cloud-based Xirrus Management System (XMS). The solution is a completely redesigned cloud service for managing small to massive scale wireless networks simply.

The new service is part of a suite of Xirrus Cloud Services created for complete lifecycle management of a wireless networks, including Wi-Fi Designer Cloud (design), Xirrus Mobilize (deploy), and XMS-Cloud (manage).

"Our new XMS-Cloud service removes the complexity and learning curve associated with deploying and operating wireless networks, especially for customers who do not have large IT staffs or who cannot afford the time to train them," said Bruce Miller, vice president of product marketing at Xirrus.

"The ability to rapidly and easily provision a new wireless network helps eliminate barriers to wireless adoption and expedite broad scale roll outs. Organizations can realize the benefits of wireless connectivity faster and without compromising user productivity."

As the demand for mobile access anytime and anywhere continues to accelerate, wireless networks can become more complex to design and deploy across multiple sites and to support high user densities.

The suite of Xirrus Cloud Services enables organisations to confidently roll out wireless networks quickly, in particular reducing the effort required across geographically dispersed installations, such as distributed enterprises and large campuses.

Because Xirrus Cloud Services are Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offerings hosted by Xirrus, IT operational tasks to maintain the software are eliminated.

"Delivering IT services to teachers, office staff and hundreds of students across multiple schools is very challenging especially with students bringing their own mobile devices," said Joseph Piazza, Technology Systems Manager at Lynnfield Public Schools. "The next generation Xirrus Management System Cloud platform is extremely simple and user friendly. I can create network profiles for each school and make configuration changes with the click of a button."

"A simple cloud solution to manage wireless networks is what our customers have been asking for," said Tim Joyce CTO at iNetworks, a global provider of IT and telecommunications services in both the commercial and government marketplace. "With the fast growth in the number of mobile devices and BYOD, the demands placed on the network are rapidly increasing, making it complex for our customers to manage their Wi-Fi networks. The user interface in XMS-C is extremely simple and intuitive, configuring and managing wireless LANs is easy."

Next generation XMS–Cloud is a massively scalable, multi-tenant wireless network management platform that provides full monitoring and management of a Xirrus wireless and wired network. The highly customisable dashboard provides instant real-time views of network and device activity.

Drill down enables detailed troubleshooting of user issues. Profile-based configuration delivers an easy drag-drop methodology to create and deploy policies across the wireless network. Additionally, detailed reporting delivers rolled up network information relevant to planning and compliance monitoring.

XMS-Cloud operates with Xirrus Mobilize, a free automated, cloud-based provisioning service to accelerate the deployment of Xirrus wireless networks. Zero-touch provisioning ensures products can be rolled out in remote locations without on-site IT support. Geared to the needs of highly distributed organizations, Xirrus Mobilize enables wireless networks to deploy with plug-and-play simplicity. The service can operate standalone or integrated with XMS-Cloud.

XMS-Cloud is delivered with subscription-based licensing to reduce capex and optimize opex. Hosted in the cloud, the service is highly available and can be accessed from anywhere, on any web browser platform.

The next generation XMS-Cloud service is available today. The Xirrus Management System-Cloud (XMS-C) costs US $55/radio per year.
