VimpelCom and Ericsson bring LTE to Moscow

VimpelCom, one of the world’s largest integrated telecommunications services operators, has launched LTE services using Ericsson technology in Moscow. VimpelCom LTE FDD services are now accessible within the central Sadovoye Ring area of the city, and are expected to be available throughout the Russian capital by the end of 2013.

According to the latest Ericsson ConsumerLab research, network performance is one of the principal drivers of subscriber loyalty. In terms of improving customer loyalty, addressing network performance is one of the most effective instruments. Mobile broadband users expect a good internet connection anytime, anywhere, and a high-quality 4G network is the best means of achieving this.

Kjersti Wiklund, chief operating officer at VimpelCom, said: ‘We are fully aware of the importance of providing reliable, high-speed mobile internet connections, thus meeting our subscribers’ expectations. The Moscow region is a No. 1 priority for investments to significantly improve mobile internet quality, and the launch of our LTE network in Moscow is just the first part of a large-scale strategic project that will see LTE services deployed across Russia.’

Dmitry Maselsky, Head of Ericsson Russia, said: ‘Through this cooperation, we are further strengthening our long-term strategic business relationship with VimpelCom, and we are proud to be entrusted with the deployment of a next-generation mobile network in the Russian capital. High-speed mobile internet is becoming essential to the lives of consumers, and we are committed to supporting VimpelCom with advanced solutions that will enhance the consumer experience.’
