ZTE successfully tests TD-LTE One-Line base stations to boost cell edge performance

Manufacturer says solution is world’s first with LTE-Advanced relay function to improve 4G network efficiency at the cell edge and edge coverage

ZTE successfully tests TD-LTE One-Line base stations to boost cell edge performance

ZTE announced today (9 April 2013) that it has successfully completed testing of its TD-LTE (Time-Division Long Term Evolution) One-Line base stations. The base stations are the industry’s first TD-LTE commercial solution that supports an LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) relay function, a key step in LTE-A commercial base station and global 4G development, according to the company.

The new base stations were tested by the Guangzhou branch of China Mobile. Guangzhou is home to China’s largest TD-LTE network and has extremely complex coverage scenarios that pose great challenges for networking.

ZTE tested its TD-LTE One-Line base stations in three typical scenarios – a blind spot, outdoor covering indoor, and outdoor remote coverage. The test data shows that deployment of the TD-LTE One-Line base stations can improve performance on cell edges by 200% and edge coverage by 50%.

The TD-LTE One-Line base station has only one external power cord, a baseband unit, an RF unit, and an antenna unit in a container that can be easily carried by a single person. Its protection rating against dust and water is as high as IP65, which satisfies the requirements for outdoor deployment. Additionally it reduces energy consumption for network coverage, helping operators build green TD-LTE networks.

ZTE’s TD-LTE One-Line base stations act as relay points between traditional macro base stations and enhance LTE wireless signals, which effectively improves signal quality in cell edges and weak coverage areas.

Because of its use of macro stations, micro stations, pico stations, and the relay function, the Guangzhou LTE network can cope with the challenges of massive increases in demand for data, to provide users with a high-quality wireless broadband experience.
