Simoco showcases latest DMR, P25 and Xfin products at IWCE 2013

Latest range of DMR Tier II Xd products, Xfin Blade units and P25 SB2025NT Simulcast base station are among the products on show, along with Affini’s IP core for critical voice, data and video software platform

Simoco showcases latest DMR, P25 and Xfin products at IWCE 2013

Mobile radio specialist Simoco, part of the TTG group, will be exhibiting its latest DMR, P25 and Xfin mobile radio products at this year’s IWCE conference and exhibition in Las Vegas.

Simoco will be hosting a number of demonstrations, including one led by systems integrator Affini, which will demonstrate a unified critical communications platform that enables interoperability over IP between two way radios, smartphones, tablets and desktop PCs.

Products on show at IWCE

At the show, Simoco will exhibit its complete end-to-end DMR system, Simoco Xd (pictured), which includes base stations/repeater, mobiles and portables all built around an IP backbone. Simoco Xd offers DMR Tier II, with a software upgrade option to the DMR Tier III (trunked radio) standard. This follows the recent announcement of the company’s first commercial deployment of Simoco Xd through one of its key channel partners, Philcomm in Queensland Australia.

Simoco will also have its latest range of P25, featuring the SB2025NT Simulcast base station, which offers market-leading P25 performance in a robust, reliable yet compact 2U form. The SB2025NT integrated simulcast and voting controller offers enhanced resilience and full remote management of base station networks in a cost effective, component-based system, which is spectrum specific and perfectly suited for a broad area of coverage.

Simoco will also be displaying its Xfin Blade units, which are at the core of Simoco’s Xfin system. Each Blade unit is a replicable system component which, when connected together, enables the construction of single or multi-site Xfin systems, dependent upon the software option selected. Xfin IP Soft Switch connectivity between Xfin Blades enables up to 32 channel units at a single site, and up to 300 networked sites.

Simoco speaker sessions

Simoco’s group marketing director, Jonathan Bunce, will be giving a presentation on the IP-revolution in radio, examining the general principles of IP convergence and in particular asking questions about why PMR was one of the last communication technologies to take advantage benefits of IP.

In addition to providing a history of the IP revolution with the PMR industry, Jonathan will also draw on project case studies around the world to explain how the move to IP based systems has paved the way for new applications and reduced overall cost of ownership in mobile radio.

Simoco’s chief technologist and chair of the DMR Association’s Technical Working Group, Andy Grimmett, will also lead the ‘Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) for LMR technicians’ session as part of the IWCE conference.

Ian Carr, CEO of Simoco said: ‘IWCE is one of the biggest events in the calendar for two-way radio manufacturers and we are attending the event following an exciting 12 months, with the launch of Simoco Xd and our first major commercial deployment of the technology in Australia. IWCE allows us the opportunity to showcase some of our most innovative products on the market, and demonstrate the value of innovation and interoperability in radio communications.’

During IWCE, Simoco will be teaming up with Zetron and Project Technology Interest Group (PTIG) to give interoperability demonstrations. The demonstration will see the connection of Simoco’s SB2025NT base to a Zetron console dispatcher, showing how the two work together seamlessly. The demonstration will take place on the PTIG stand #2821.

Cloud-based unified critical communications with Affini Real Time Connect

Systems integrator Affini, also part of the TTG group, will carry out a demonstration of a unified critical communications platform that enables interoperability over IP between two way radios, smartphones, tablets and desktop PCs.

Affini Real Time Connect creates an IP core for critical voice, data and video using the Wave software platform and will initially be deployed at London’s Heathrow Airport, but will suit many large campus applications.

Affini managing director Jason Colombo commented: ‘As organisations enhance their push-to-talk radio systems they recognise the need for mobile radio to be able to cross-communicate with other devices within their workgroup, regardless of location, be they desk phones, PC applications or cellular 3G, 4G or LTE. Affini Real Time Connect creates a common environment to mix best of breed technology platforms and devices from different vendors.’

Real Time Connect is the first in a roadmap of cloud based critical communications products to support Affini’s project, professional and managed services capability and comes on the back of a long standing relationship with the inventors of Wave.

The company is currently working on other vertical applications, notably in the area of entertainment venues and sports stadiums where Real Time Connect can unlock additional revenue streams as well as improve operational efficiency.

Affini specialises in the planning, deployment and management of critical communications networks for large complex environments and has a network presence at 20 UK airports, including London Heathrow.

Simoco can be found at Booth 2621, Las Vegas Convention Centre, IWCE from 11-15 March 2013
