Hughes Europe, part of Hughes Network Systems, has supplied Hungaro DigiTel, Hungary’s leading satellite communications operator, with an HX System solution comprising a network operations centre (NOC) and an initial quantity of 1,000 HX50 broadband satellite terminals.
As part of the agreement, Hughes will also provide the customer with network and technical support. The HX System will enable Hungaro DigiTel to deliver broadband satellite services including high-speed Internet access to customers in various sectors.
There are a large number of areas in Hungary with limited or no access to broadband terrestrial Internet service, representing thousands of households and businesses.
‘The availability of robust high-speed Internet access and managed services via satellite represents a major step forward, making broadband access an affordable and attainable reality for Hungary,’ said Antonio Felizardo, general manager of Hungaro DigiTel. ‘We aim to build a long-standing relationship with Hughes and are looking at plans to roll out multiple services and applications over the HX System across various public and private sectors.’
Chris Britton, managing director at Hughes Europe, said: ‘As Hungaro DigiTel’s preferred hardware vendor, Hughes Europe will have a strong footprint in Hungary, making it a crucial first step to expanding our presence across the region.’
