Hytera Mobilfunk boosts TETRA R&D with acquisition of fjord-e-design

Purchase of German company adds experience and products in TETRA and TEDS protocol stacks and TETRA measurement technology to Hytera Mobilfunk’s existing skills sets

Hytera Mobilfunk boosts TETRA R&D with acquisition of fjord-e-design

Hytera Mobilfunk, a subsidiary of Hytera Communications, added extra fire power to its research and development capability following the acquisition of fjord-e-design (FED) on 25 October 2012. FED has its headquarters in Flensburg, Germany and specializes in wireless protocols.

FED will contribute its longstanding experience in the development of TETRA and TEDS protocol stacks, as well as TETRA measurement technology to the company. In addition to the existing Hytera centre of competence for TETRA in Bad Münder near Hannover, Flensburg now becomes the second most important development location of Hytera Mobilfunk in Germany.

The existing FED customers in the business fields of protocol stacks and measurement technology will continue to be managed from the Flensburg location, and the sales area for measuring technology in Germany will remain with fjord-e-design-sales.

Dr. Georg Haubs, managing director of Hytera Mobilfunk, sees multiple synergies for the customers of both companies. ‘The acquisition of FED is an important step for Hytera Mobilfunk to accelerate the further development of the TETRA portfolio towards TETRA-2/TEDS, as well as LTE. In future we will be able to react to the demands of the market even faster and together we will offer the best and most innovative products, both with regard to infrastructure and with regard to radio terminals.’

Hauke Holm, managing director of FED said: ‘Our experience with TETRA and TEDS excellently fits Hytera's competences in the field of system infrastructure technology and radio terminals.’

Fjord-e-design is a key provider of TETRA and TEDS protocol stack software for radio terminals and infrastructure, as well as measuring equipment. FED said that network operators and manufacturers appreciate its 8140 TETRA AirAnalyzer as a reference for network monitoring and protocol analysis. FED has over 10 years of experience in PMR and especially in TETRA.
