TeliaSonera is preparing to extend its 4G/LTE network to Gothenburg, Sweden’s second largest city.
The network is the world’s first operator to launch a commercial 4G network with services opening in Oslo and Stockholm last year.
The operator is using Nokia Siemens Networks’ Flexi Multiradio Base Station to provide the infrastructure. NSN is one of two technology providers that signed a contract to roll out the network in January 2010.
NSN said its base stations could result in ‘up to 70% network energy savings compared with previous generations of base stations’.
Earlier in June, TeliaSonera said that it expected to start offering 4G handsets to customers early next year.
