Thales has been chosen to provide TETRA radio communications systems for new metro lines in Santo Domingo and Panama City. Both will use Thales’s DigiM@x TETRA solution, which offers secure communications for on-board, ground-based and operations dispatching.

Santo Domingo’s 20km metro line 2 will be operational in 2012. The contract is for OPRET, the Dominican Republic’s mass transit operator, and follows the successful deployment of DigiM@x on line 1.

In Panama City, Thales is supplying its TETRA solution to the city’s first metro line. The 14km line will be equipped with 11 TETRA radio sites. The line is due to open in 2013.
